The same thing happened to me when I tried to use hotseat for Targi. I entered the name Sue and the game defaulted to French. When I clicked on her name the profile came up for _hotseat01 whose default language is french, I tried in turn based and in tournament mode and the samething happened.

I am seeing French as the language for _hotseat01, _hotseat02, and hotseat03 when adding them to a game (in this case Penny Press) and when viewing their profiles:

Also during game play the whole interface switched to French when it was the hotseat player's turn.

I tried using a VPN to change my IP address to a US based IP and hotseat players still showed with French as their language. French language is also shown on hotseat profiles whether viewed logged in or logged out.

I have not been able to find a method for switching to a different language on a hotseat player.

This happened to me too in games with hotseatplayer(s).
Their log always in french.
Use Firefox as browser.
Even when playing Can't Stop it showed the french board which is different from the one I always see when playing no hotseat games. (this was some time ago; before the box showing up first in every game).
To reproduce you probably need to be from different country than France I suppose ;)

I am using hotseat to learn the rules in game, but now hotseat Player is only in French. Please make somthing with this.

For me the white screen between hot seats show english "it is your turn" but my language is set to french.
The game is in french.

This is still happening, and very difficult for when trying to play hotseat with younger children who do not speak french

This is happening for me when trying to setup a game of Jaipur. Basically makes this feature unusable :( Is this happening for all games or only some?

Happening for Lost Cities too, so presume it's all games. I wish this could work as it would be ideal for us to play off one device with friends that are remote

I was able to reproduce this on a can't stop table. The language is default set to french and i cannot change it.

As you can see in this game at least the game prompts are in english so i do not see this causing any issue in game play.

I was able to reproduce this on many games as Dragonheart (table: boardgamearena.com/table?table=77777006), Seasons, Tobago, 7 Wonders, Carcassonne. The language of the hotseat player is french. Every message (for example when a card is not allowed to use) will appear in french for the hotseat player and in the chosen language (german) für the regular player.

Alors que je pensais m'inscrire sur le site en français, mes amis me disent que je n'ai pas le drapeau français à côté de mon nom (alors que moi je vois pourtant le drapeau français). Du coup pendant certaines parties (puerto rico, love letters) je bascule de français à anglais et même quand je fais f5 pour rafraîchir ça se remet en anglais.

A l'inverse tout le site est généralement en français et c'est le cas du jeu dice forge également.

Mais surtout je ne trouve pas français dans la liste des langues parlées disponibles que je peux sélectionner.

I just started using this functionality a couple of days ago. The issue occurred in the very first game we played (Kingdomino). Since then I have used it with Seasons, Dice Forge, and Eminent Domain, with the same problem of the hotseat player being French (and the rules and warnings also being in French).

From the Play Now page, I selected Simple Game, Real-Time, Friend, then Add a a friend.
I answered "Yes" to the question "Will both you and your friend share the same screen?"
Then I typed the player name and clicked "Add player"
Then a I chose a game

When I am taken to the screen to adjust the game settings and start the game, the hotseat player's country designation is already France.

I don't know if this is related, but I've also noticed that the game stats are unavailable at the end of the game (regardless of who wins). The system is expecting the hotseat player to be a premium member and offers to upgrade the hotseat player in order to view the stats.

I am in the United Stated and am running Windows 10. My browser is Chrome Version 79.0.3945.130 (Official Build) (64-bit). I am using a guest window and logged in through my Google account.

It would also be good to change the flag to the hotseat player. Now it's always French.

It's 2025 and this issue seems to be happening again.

-Trying to continue a 3 player hotseat game of dead cells but the second player '_hotseat01' defaults to French and can't be manually changed.
-My browser language is definitely in English
-'_hotseat02' defaults to english
-We have been playing dead cells as a three since it launched and have only noticed the french language issue since the latest update

-Using a macbook air OS: 15.6.1
