When starting on Beograd, with 3 coins and 1 potion, I play a compass which gives me 4 actions points. Moving to the East I'll need to pay 1 coin and then I should be able to activate the bonus tile of 2 VPs and 1 coin.
Once the bonus activated I can pay 3 coins for another potion. According to the rules it says to activate the bonus tokens and take the effect, pg 7 of the rulebook. Additionally pg 12 defines what a bonus tile is and again states to take and activate the bonus tile. -
